Why we love Saint Laurent (and why you do too)

At Cosette, we have noticed that not one of our customers have ever said ‘I don’t like Saint Laurent’. When asked about the French Maison de Luxe, our clients all use the same words to describe it: timeless, iconic and chic. In French we would say ‘Intemporel’.

Every good bag connoisseur can name at least a few Saint Laurent bags – Kate, Sunset, Sac de Jour, Vicky, Loulou to name a few… and any bag lover can recognise a Saint Laurent bag within others.

Whether you’re looking for a work-, day-, travel-, casual- or evening bag, Saint Laurent plays with a variety of neutral and timeless colours -proper to the brand and chooses within different types of fabrics or leathers such as smooth, grained, shiny, patent, soft or grain de poudre to suit every style but still honouring their original and proper branding with its unique topstitching signature and quilting details, signature black aesthetic, and metallic YSL logo hardware.

Indeed, Saint Laurent is never too over-the-top, nor it is too discreet. Like any recipe for success overtime, everything is based on the right dosage. Thus, it is the right combination of hardware, fine leather and topstitches that makes the Maison so unique and an all-time favourite within us all Amoureux de la mode.

Renowned for its audace, its famous rock’n’roll with-a-twist touch and perfecting everything by adding some boyish shapes, La Maison Saint Laurent is in a never-ending process of reinventing its classics and turning them into it-bags. Is the secret hidden in its simplicity or extravagance? The House’s ability to always twisting 1980’s inspired shapes with modern aesthetics is probably why it never ceased staying trendy decades after decades by Monsieur Saint-Laurent’s successors.

Yves Saint Laurent was the pioneer in using exotic skins and leathers in his design process, but the secret was also hidden in his individuality in using innovative materials. Patrick Mauries, author of the book Yves Saint Laurent accessories says:

“Metal chains, which Saint Laurent had often used in his early years for necklaces and belts, were repurposed to serve as shoulder straps. Processes and techniques were adapted to achieve whatever the current theme demanded: leather could be studded (on both shoulder straps and the body of a bag), perforated, cut, pierced (allowing one colour to show through another), laced (rather than stitched), dotted with cabochons made of resin, or pieced together from lozenge-shaped sections or other patchwork.”.

Yves Saint-Laurent himself was not only a man who put women into pant suits, he also was passionate about his own idea of fashion to create something that has never been done by its predecessors. His innovative mind gave birth to what we could also refer as a fashion movement making his creations reinforced over time as the creative direction was being taken over by the talented Hedi Slimane and more recently Anthony Vacarello, both possessing the strong ability to create contemporary reincarnations of Yves’s creations.

While the work behind every Saint Laurent bag goes way back, there is no doubt the Saint-Laurent Fashion House will keep surprising us with its unconventional yet so-lovable bags creations. In addition, there is no doubt we will keep admiring their collections as the designers pass on the torch, and we will keep doing our best to provide you with all of your favourite and iconic Saint-Laurent Staple pieces.

Cosette

Where do our bags come from?

At Cosette, we offer a wide variety of products from street style to conservative, as we believe there should be options suiting everyone’s style. Cosette revolves around those 4 key points:

• Accessibility
• Authenticity
• Quality
• Fashionability

Following and taking into account the trends of the moment, we have new products arriving every 2-3 weeks to keep our customers happy, responding to their on-going demand.

…But where do our bags come from?

Being well aware of the difficulties Multi-Brand stores can encounter, we are thriving in always giving you certainty of the authenticity of what you buy. We are well aware of the massive gap there was between the styles you could find in big fashion capital cities and the ones available in Australia. As a result, our buying team is working hard and dedicating its time in sourcing the best of the best including in season, best-sellers, capsule collections and runaway items. All of our products are coming all the way from Europe, mostly from France and Italy, as we take advantage of the opposite seasons by complying with the Australian Parallel Import law.

Now well established within the local Australian market and in all the APAC region, we really pride ourselves with the origin of our products. Most of the time, the majority of our products are quite limited in quantity, but we love offering the ability to provide our customers with so many choices. We are pleased to announce that we are the official outlet for the Safilo group which englobes sunglasses brands such as Dior, Fendi or Givenchy -to name a few.

Being a Multi brand, and positioning ourselves as an affordable high end fashion retailer, we aim to bring to our clients the most genuine products as we believe luxury should have its place in everyone’s closet. Thus, we are strongly fighting against all sorts of fakes and other counterfeit items. Our recently acquired DFS license (Duty Free Store) means that all of our stock and suppliers undergo a thorough check by the Australian Border force itself.

Our best advice when getting a new designer bag is: if you don’t plan on getting your bag from the original store, you should get it from reputable resellers that have the ability to provide you with some authenticity papers from trusted third parties.
